Interview with M.G. Marquez

What do you read for pleasure?
Books about adventure - mostly dystopian in nature. I'm in love with books in series.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was a junior. I was writing a manuscript for a manga for my friends, pero hindi ko sya palaging natatapos. It is just in 2013 that I was able to finish a book with 100 chapters/parts. Amazing, right?
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is being able to express myself, my ideas, my world inside my brain, to a lot of people and being appreciated by them. It is not the votes, or the number of reads I'm getting that fuels me up, it's the messages I get from the readers - be it online messages or text messages or in person. I really love my readers, because they inspire me. The greatest joy of writing is being able to influence people with your words, and being able to affect them in the smallest way possible. I love writing. I'm in love with writing.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is An Apple A Day. The story behind this book? Well, while I was listening to this certain song - "Dati" by Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos - a concept was starting to formulate. It was such a cool song that I fell in love with it. Later, I heard another song, "Pelikula" by BOB and it also inspired me into putting my ideas into words. The book, however, is pretty much the same concept with Dati (the song), a childhood love story, but of course with a lot of twists and other stories. This is the only book which was inspired by a song, and I really love it. The fans love it, too.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans? They're my soul. They fuel up my life and they're such wonderful, beautiful people. They inspire me to write new chapters, new books. I love them with all of my heart. Without them, I wouldn't be able to improve myself, my writing.
What are you working on next?
There are still two books I'm working on now - She's the Boss Book 2 and An Apple A Day. At the same time, I'm working on another venture - Dear My High School Boy - which will be out next year (2015) at the latest.
Who are your favorite authors?
My favorite authors are Cornelia Funke (Inkheart Trilogy), Veronica Roth (Divergent Series), and John Green.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Thinking about the wonders of life.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story that I ever read - I mean read, I mean finished - was Inkheart. I fell in love with that book and I don't know why. That is the book that made me fall in love with books in general. I can't explain but I really enjoyed that world of Inkheart, later, the world of books. That's why my favorite author was Cornelia Funke, because of what Inkheart did to me.
How do you approach cover design?
The first thing that I consider on buying/reading a book is cover design, next is the plot. If the cover design is not appealing to my eyes, then I won't read the book. That is how critical cover design is for me as a reader. So I apply that to my books. I make sure my books' covers are all appealing and good. I don't settle for mediocre designs.

Once upon a time, a mango fell from above. She caught it. He jumped down. Eyes to eyes, they... hated each other at different time laps. No good things ever come from them - together. But little did they know that their small encounters made their worlds come together and never fall apart. This is a story of laughter, friendship, chances, love, betrayal and forgiveness, possibilities and what-ifs.
