Interview with R Ashley

What are you working on next?
I have a few books that i'm working on. I love to write but cannot give any plots away just yet.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My children and grandchildren. We have 5 children two of which are disabled, plus we have two of our grandchildren in our care. So we are quite busy.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
After suffering a heart attack last year (2016) I walk every day and go to a heart exercise class once a week which i do enjoy. We look after our family which keeps us very busy.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a lot at school but cannot remember the stories. The first emotional story I wrote was about my son which is all true and I wrote from exact records I kept while living in the hospital with him.
What is your writing process?
I don't really get much time to write but when i do it is just on my laptop when i get a bit of free time.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
One of the first books i read at school was "shane" i like western films. I also remember "James and the giant peach"
My sons story still has an impact on me now, still makes me tearful even though i wrote it and i know whats coming.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have struggled with marketing to be honest. I have contacted stores directly also but mostly ignored.
Describe your desk
I write on a armchair,my laptop on the arm rest.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I live in the same area more or less and the same house for over 30 years, nothing really influenced me i just like writing and making stories.
When did you first start writing?
Oh from a very early age, even today myself and my granddaughters make stories up while i take them to school. My recent book "rey the royal rabbit" came from one sentence when someone said "million pound truffle" then i wrote the story about "Rey" from this.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I had a heart attack so one morning i wrote this for my grandchildren, i know it maybe shows i wrote it in a few hours but i think the story came together quite well.
