Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town in England. I use it a lot as a setting for my writing, since it's a place I know well. It's close enough to the city for easy travel, so it's kind of the perfect destination. It means that the characters in the novel have the best of both worlds - the quiet of a farming town, and the excitement of the city.
When did you first start writing?
I wrote my first 'novel' when I was about ten years old. It was a 38 page alien war tale, and very, very cheesy. At the time, I clearly thought it was a masterpiece.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have several projects on the go, but they all tend to have a theme of exploring a character's identity. Most of my characters are part of the LGBT community, because I feel these sorts of people are under-represented, and have a story that needs to be told.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When the words flow out of you like water, there's no better feeling. It's a rare event, but when it happens, it's pretty special.
