Interview with Hesty Lim

Describe your desk
My desk is simple... Left side, I have my notebook, agenda, pens and all... The right side is a clear coast.. :D Except for computer mouse and external hard disk... and oh, I forgot, my favorite oil.. Eucalyptus oil and my mobile phone..
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am working most of the time. I am working as virtual assistant and I love listening to music and watching movies.. :)
When did you first start writing?
I first start writing when I was around 10 probably. I remember I made handcraft diary.. I wrote whatever I had in mind.. Then it grew to me writing stories apart from diary. I can't go a year without at least writing diary... So, I guess, I have found the love of my life.. :)
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I think becoming indie author is amazing. Though some people might think becoming indie author is a shortcut of becoming an author.. but I don't think so. Well, of course we can publish whatever we want but it is not easy path because you have to take control of everything and be responsible of the outcome.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I think it has been word of mouth.. :)
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is being able to tell stories and to explore other side of the world which I never explore myself. Being a writer and writing different characters enable us to look at things through other people's point of view. And it is so amazing...
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I don't really remember... It was a long time ago, and I wrote a lot of stories on my notebooks... I hardly remember which was the first..
What is your writing process?
There's no special process actually. It is just me getting on my notebook, my computer or even my mobile phone when inspiration struck.. The story line can come up anywhere and anytime.. And if I don't have any noting or recording device near me, I will just imagine that I am writing it on a piece of white paper .. Somehow it stays till I get something to write on.. :D
How do you approach cover design?
I approach cover design on the whole story line. It is like an image which can tell the whole story without having you to read the book at first? Well, you will get the idea of what the story is about just by seeing the cover and I am lucky to find a great cover art designer.. :)
What are you working on next?
I am working on the second book of The Catherine and Carl Diaries. So, while waiting for this second book to be published.. Please take a look at my first series of The Catherine and Carl.. Hehe
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book and my very first mini novel ever published is The Catherine and Carl Diaries. It's a series and there will be three books of it. The one published is the first one and I am working on the second one...

It is about Catherine and Carl who have to go through such complicated love story. Catherine loves Carl and she knows it but somehow, Carl seems to push her away. When she is finally gone, Carl starts to realize that he actually loves her. Now, they have to see each other partnering with others and it kills them both.

I invite you to join the emotional roller coaster ride with Catherine and Carl.. :)
