Interview with Adam Wieland

Published 2016-10-11.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The one thing that inspires me each day is my wife. In real life just like in my book she has end stage kidney failure. If she can get up and go into the world with a smile on her face after a night of being on dialysis i can too.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing i am working with the special education population in Rockford IL. I also collect records and other vintage items.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Most of the time i just peruse different review sites.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
LOL i do, however it probably wouldn't be appropriate to describe in my interview. Lets just say i was a messed up kid and wrote a book entitled Free Your Willie in the fifth grade.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story i remember reading is The Giving Tree with my grandma. I don't know if it impacted me then but, as i have grown older i feel that it has. The story really shows more than it lets on. It hit me one day that the book is actually a mother child relationship. The tree just gives and gives and destroys itself in the process. All the while it stays "happy" just like a parent.
What is your writing process?
I don't know if i have one really. With modern technology when ever i have an idea i can use my phone to take a note or write a paragraph.
How do you approach cover design?
For this particular book i wanted to find something that would grab your attention. A zombie eating a baby face definitely does that.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Right now social media is becoming a critical part of marketing. It takes time and effort but it will work.
Describe your desk
My desk is completely covered in random things. behind me is a dresser and my guinea pig cage.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Rockford IL, or as the world has come to know it the most dangerous city with under 200,000 residents in the united states. Growing up it wasn't that bad though. Only lately it has become dangerous. I had a good childhood but was a bad apple. By that i ,mean i got into a bunch of trouble everything from fighting to running over my grade school principal with my bike. A lot of the back story in my books is true life events. Yes my real life can coincide with the zombie apocalypse,
When did you first start writing?
The fifth grade with "Free My Willie" then throughout high school i was a typical EMO poet. I was published in a few anthologies but up until the last year or so i never thought i would write a book.
