Interview with Mark Corrigan

What are you working on next?
I published 16 books on my own website hosted by Go Daddy with very limited success. Anyone looking for a good e-book to read or an audio book would only find my website by accident as I was on page 200 of 400+ pages of e-books listed by Google. I am now converting my books into the Smashwords format. I published my first Book "What Price Justice" in August 2016. This is my true life story about Vietnam bribing President Bill Clinton to have me illegally convicted in Federal Court and the 20 year battle to receive Justice from a corrupt District Court Judge in North Carolina. I have just published the Book "Soft Touch." This is the first book of four stories I will be publishing to add color, flavor and insights about the Vietnam era and the Cold War when the United States and Russia were looking at each other eyeball to eyeball with their fingers on the trigger of Nuclear Weapons. The main character Michael Patrick O'Neil's Radio Call Sign was "Soft Touch" when he ran the Sniper Team in Vietnam . He also becomes a "Soft Touch" when he may have sold his soul to the devil for the key to unlock Jayne's self imposed psychological isolation. The devil's price to save the love of his life required O'Neil to kill the Southeast Asian Drug Lord who is providing $20 worth of 98% pure heroin to the American GI's on the streets of South Vietnam for only a dollar. I will be publishing the other three Books The Page of Diamonds, Three Toed Tiger Tales and Blackmoon Rising very soon.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin. Lived in the Town of Granville which no longer exists. Every night during Supper Time my father always told stories about things that happened that day, when he lived on family homestead in central Wisconsin and things that took place in his life. To me he was the best story teller and I always wanted to tell stories like he did. My Mother wrote short stories and poems that were published in the local newspapers and did publish a book of poetry. Sometime we would writer poems together as I had a vivid imagination. My sister also published a Cook Book with Blue Ribbon Recipes from the State Fair. It is also said that the Irish have a gift for telling stories.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Telling stories about things and events in my life.
How do you approach cover design?
I want to create an image that will draw in the reader's interests about the story and want to find out what is behind the Book's Cover.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work part time at a 102 year old real Hardware Store. I love lively discussions with interesting people who are capable of defending their beliefs and opinions with real facts. I enjoy shooting black powder Civil War Pistols and muzzle loading firearms. But most of all I take time to smell the Roses.
What is your writing process?
I have an idea that I would like to share with everyone. Then when I sit down to type the words they flow as if I have already written them before. The more I write the pieces of the story come together from the experience I have had, the places I have been, and the people I have met. While other writers may live through the stories they write, living an interesting life is the greatest resource to make the story real, exciting and believable. Anyone who has ever known me can say that my life has been boring.
Who are your favorite authors?
W.E.B. Griffin, Robert Ludlum, Tom Clancy Dan Brown, James Herriot, Barry Reed, Stephen King, Daniel Bolger, John Grisham, Dean Koontz, Upton Sinclair, Irving Wallace. Richard Adams, April Christofferson, John Jakes, Sidney Sheldon, Michael Crichton, Wilber Smith, and Dana Fuller Ross.
Describe your desk
It is filled with notes, files and reference books dealing with the story I am writing.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I hope so.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The thought of a new day and things to see, do and experience which will make today better than yesterday
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane. It inspired me to study the American Civil War after I found an old musket in a barn and learned how to shoot it. This was the start of my shooting career in which I have won more than 6,000 Competitive Metals built a Civil War reproduction gun company called Harpers Ferry Arms and became an International Businessman. In my studies of the Civil War I learned about all the mistake made by the Commanders of the both the armies and I use that to avoid making my own mistakes when I commanded seven different units in the US Army.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have used many of my personnel experiences to add realistic events in my books. I felt writing the book Three Toed Tiger Tales would give the reader a better understanding of what really went on during the Vietnam War. Too many people fail to understand what the era of the Cold War with Russia was a battle between Communism and the Free World.
What is you next Book?
I will have the Books the Page of Diamonds and Blackmoon Rising published before the end of April. The text and the book covers are being worked on now. This will be the end of the stories on the Legend of Captain Michael Patrick O'Neil.
I am now working on the Book, Quiet Miracles. It is about a little blind girl from West Virginia who fixes or cures unselfish good people. It gives the reader an understanding about what Miracles really are and how they are establish.
