Interview with Jamal A. Hartley

What do your fans mean to you?
It means that there are people out there who enjoy what I write, who sit down and read the words I have written down. It is exciting! I write because I love to, and having those that love reading it makes it an even better experience.
What are you working on next?
I am working on a series of stories, The Indomitable Blitzkrieg, which I hope to one day turn into a comic book. For now, he shall be a novel super hero.
Who are your favorite authors?
I don't have one mostly because I don't limit myself to authors only genres. If I like the premise, and the story sounds promising then I will read it.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
To see what inspires me next.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
School work since, I am currently in college or enjoying myself in whatever the day has in stored for me.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I look through genres, look at titles first, then the cover, and I read the synopsis. If I like what I read or my interest is piqued I will purchase it right then and there.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Ah, yes I do. I started out writing FanFictions on DeviantArt based on a video game. I've improved greatly since then.
What is your writing process?
I start writing things from the top of my head. I don't put a lot of stress on each word written. I write things down then review it over and over and over again, until I think it's the best I can make it. If it's really important I get some outside looks from friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
No I don't but I remember that I used to hate reading. Only reason I did was probably because I was reading the wrong kind of books. My favorite book that I remember was a book called Bud' Not Buddy.
What do you read for pleasure?
Comic books usually, but I try to get in a few actual books although they may be similarly themed.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. I nice place to live and grow. I grew up in love with super heroes, but as I grew and became more aware of things I realized that Atlanta never had its own fictional super hero. I had wanted to change that in an ambitious way. I hope that makes sense.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is something that I had been working on for a really long time. I grew up watching heroes, seeing their struggles, and seeing that even though it based in fiction how it can apply to real life sometimes. This book is my way of trying to bring that fictional world closer to real life, make it feel like you can relate or understand what these characters go through. It is a fantastic world that I want everyone to join.
