Interview with Kelly Holland

Published 2013-10-15.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in fifth grade when I realized it gave me an escape from reality. I was really quiet as a child and because of that I did not have many friends so writing helped me keep myself company. I have always loved writing it is what makes me who I am. Without it I do not know where I would be today.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I became an indie author because I want to help people with my words. I want to be able to touch peoples lives with the short stories, poems, and books that I write like the authors that have influenced my life.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is to be able to escape reality and create my own. I love deciding how the characters are going to interact with each other and forming the plot. I also love being able to put an inspirational message behind what I write that people will understand if they are going through a similar situation.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans mean the world to me they are what drives me to strive to be successful. Without my fans my messages would not be delivered thus not helping anyone.
What are you working on next?
Next I am going to be working on a series of books centered around a teenage girl that goes through various hard times and fights to overcome them.
Who are your favorite authors?
I have a lot of favorite authors which include but are not limited to Shakespeare, Meg Cabot, Dr. Seuss, Dave Pelzer, H.M Ward, Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King, Linda Howard, Nora Roberts, Nicholas Sparks, and many more.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was a story about a panda bear that got stuck up a tree and had to find his way down.
What is your writing process?
When I write I get an idea, think about it for a while then start typing and it is like my brain tells my fingers what keys to tap and in the end I have a short story, poem, or book.
How do you approach cover design?
I approach cover design by what I believe readers would pick up and automatically be interested. I know the old saying don't judge a book by its cover, but I want to peak their interest by having a compelling cover that represents what my book is all about.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not writing I am either spending time with my family, taking care of my animals, or reading the latest novel. If i am not doing any of those things I am usually working on my college assignments or taking pictures.
