Interview with Melissa Grace

How do you approach cover design?
I like to draw. Give me some graphite and a blank page and off I go. Every book I write I have a vivid idea of what the cover will look like, so I take these drawings and cropped photos and put them together. I then send the design to my cover designer and after 1-2 tweaks, it's done!
What do you read for pleasure?
I read just about everything that has an interesting synopsis. I especially like other LesFic authors and Stephen King.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My Kindle!
Describe your desk
When I write it's my MacBook Pro in my lap. At my Engineering job it's two large monitors lined up next to a bunch of equipment I am configuring. My work space has to be clean and organized... with a cup of coffee close by.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like to write stories in a vast array of genres. Stories that keep writing themselves usually become the one's I prep and prep some more for publication. I love sharing these ideas with other people just as much as I love reading "sharing" theirs.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords makes it fun and easy to get your stories out there to people that have an interest in your thoughts and ideas. They make it real easy to manage your books and to market your work so people know it exists. I love Smashwords!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I can honestly say every aspect. I love the thoughts and ideas that pop into mind. I enjoy working through the edits I find first, and then the edits suggested by my awesome beta readers. Once you hit the publish button and you see your finished product with cover and all, it's pure bliss!
What are you working on next?
I am finishing up my second novel called "Aspen's Stunt". It is a young-adult romance that I have thoroughly enjoyed creating and am just about ready to release in the next couple months. I am also working on another novel called "Brave World". I wrote most of it during nanowrimo 2013 and I have it slated for release in early 2015.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My incredible family. My partner and our three young children are whom I cherish most. I have an incredible support system of family and friends I would do anything for as well. I am one very lucky girl!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am a very busy person, but all my activities are so fun, I never feel like it's too much. I spend as much time with my kids as I can--helping with homework, taking them to family events, etc. I run a martial arts school two nights a week. And I have a group of friends so close they are my "sisters" with whom I hang out with and ride motorcycles with... both street riding and dirt biking. You may also see me in a concert playing my violin from time to time.
