Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in the Philippines. I used to read a lot. It became an escape from my normal life. As a child, I was happiest just lying on my bed reading a good book.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was in elementary school. I tried to write stories like Sweet Valley Twins books where twelve-year-old twins Jessica and Elizabeth Wakefield experience adolescence and the adventures that go along with it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing is letting my imagination flow. Creating something out of pure imagination is an incredible feeling. It's like converting thought into matter, this material thing which people can enjoy reading.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was ten years old. It's a children's story about a family of mice, I even created the illustrations, just like a real children's book.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is Sacred Vows and it's about young love between two young people who experience the ache of heartbreak. It's about the journey of two lovers who fall in love and break up for something beyond their ability to control. The young boy chooses to become a priest and the young girl gets in a fatal condition.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I get inspired when I have new projects that I am really interested in doing - be it singing, taking care of my garden, composing music, and writing a new story or a poem.
What is your writing process?
Most of the time I try to write whatever comes to mind. The ideas are endless and when I like what I am writing, I will make a story out of it.
