Interview with Ireth Seregon (Monica loo n.c)

What motivated you to become an indie author?
After many rejections, it's not that I got discouraged but editors kept pointing out I don't do enough metaphors and my stories are cliche. Actually I work and recombine ideas. In my story of the dying elf cousin, I adapted the place Bethmoora and Nuada from celtic myths but focus on the urgency and melancholy. My stories are dialogue/ character driven.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To depict and discover, grow characters inspired by great movies and dramas. Lots of Hongkong dramas have evolving and original characters and I hope to emulate that.
Which authors do you admire?
I read widely and i would have to say many. I even like some who aren't bestsellers. Some just wrote 1 or 2 books like a series about Chesspieces, the Divided realms. Drizzt do'urden rekindled my passion for elves, kudos RA salvatore, James Barclay for his realistic Lotr renditions And mages' detailed magic skills! Anything about demons and high school comedies I am open to
What are you working on next?
Quite a few projects: my fanfiction Alfheim College, some Drizzt fanfiction, about endangered animals. Because my realworld passion would be to speak for those who cannot talk.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Gaming, finding good dramas, papercutting, playing with cats, dreaming
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Based on sailormoon characters! I had been so obsessed with anime then
What is your writing process?
I don't really plan a story, it just comes in bits. With paper or a notebook I draft scenes and paragraphs. Proud that I never really have writers' block!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I think they were Enid Blyton's mystery series. All the kids were so smart and adventurous, hadn't set my ambition then but reading was always my favorite foremost activity. Didn't play enough
What do you read for pleasure?
nonfiction about Self confidence, taking care of animals, fantasy, comedy
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social Media. Because there aren't agents nor many events, promotion is our own duty.
Describe your desk
I have a few, my main desk is full of files and books. My computer desk has some notebooks, a papercutting and some articles in a file
