Interview with Isabella Lamont

Describe your desk
LOL -- believe it or not, I don't have one. I write on a laptop exactly where a laptop is supposed to be -- in my lap. I sit and write anywhere and everywhere. I'm editing this in a local Starbucks.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'm just not inclined to start the lengthy process of seeking out publishers who are willing to take a chance on a new author with absolutely no background. I also like to do things on my own and 'sink or swim' by the results. Smashwords has given the opportunity to do precisely that.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
There are not enough hours in the day to do all the cool things in our lives. A large backyard garden is a luxury of which we never tire. Travel is great -- over the past ten years we've visited many different countries. Cruising is great -- we've been fortunate enough to have taken many cruises around North America and the Mediterranean. Many of our experiences have created the backdrop for my erotic stories.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I sure do...!
I was 12 or 13 in middle school -- I'd just discovered science fiction. I wrote a story about a young woman scientist who discovers a new primary color. While camping in the mountains, a meteorite blazes across the sky, crashing to earth just across the valley. The next morning she finds what's left of it and takes a fragment back to the lab. Burned black on the outside, she cuts it in half with an industrial diamond saw. She is stunned when the freshly cut internal surface is a blazing bright new primary color, just as distinctive as yellow, blue, or red. It causes a sensation all over the world. If was fun trying to describe a color no one has ever seen before.
Sure, it was far fetched but I had a lot of fun with it, and got a really good grade.
What other kinds of writing have you done?
Professionally, my background is science and electronics. I have been published in several different scientific and environmental journals. These were papers presented at conferences, discussing (pitching...?) the latest high-tech mousetraps my company had invented, for which we hoped the world would beat a path to our door.
The writing in these papers, while ever-so-proper, was guaranteed to cure insomnia. I hated it, but it had to be done. I have also written a number of magazine articles along the same lines, but they permitted me to have a bit more fun.
The stories here on Smashwords have been my passion -- an opportunity to allow my inner self to escape. I hope I've succeeded.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Men seem incredibly fascinated with stories of well endowed men -- possibly even more so than women. So the story of a guy who grows up believing he's 'deformed', due to his abnormally large 'appendage', seemed like an interesting concept.
Hence Eddie McCulloch and his 'Jr'.
What are you working on next?
I have just finished a novella -- a love story about a young professional couple who manage to create a wonderful idealistic lifestyle combining their talents. The man is a recently graduated doctor; his wife a financial guru. On a small farm he inherited from his parents, they set up a clinic for his new medical practice. She revives the farm's operations, setting up a fruit stand selling high-end organic produce. She has plans for a vineyard on another part of the property.
But their future is jeopardized when she contracts a life-threatening illness. The confront it together. We don't know until the last sentence, whether she will survive.
It is a blazing hot story, full of their sexual adventures that will keep you riveted right to the end.
This story will be titled, 'Sami's Dilemma'.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
While I've written in other genres, I've always loved erotica.
A few years ago, separated from my SO for a few weeks by work, we exchanged highly erotic letters. Both of us enjoyed writing and receiving them immensely. From this, I started writing erotic short stories, and have never looked back.
How much of you are in your stories.
A lot...! While I write in the first and third person, from both the male and female perspective, nearly everything I write about is based on personal experience. I hope it shows.
Send me a note and let me know if it does.
How is your erotica different from all the rest?
I've read a lot of erotica -- romantic and otherwise -- available on-line these days. I find most of it wanting -- certainly not what turns me on.
I like erotica that actually has a fascinating story -- a novel that would stand on its own, even without the hot action.
I don't like to start my stories with a full-blown, hot action scene -- I like to tease my readers for a while, as they get to know the characters a bit before the fun begins.
But when you finally get to my action, it will leave you breathless.
Let me know what you think.
