Interview with Adriana Lara

Published 2016-10-02.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of cliché romance werewolf and vampire stories for pleasure. I’ve tried my best to find other genres to satisfy my romance hungry soul but nothing else can ease down on my hunger except for these mythological creatures.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I prefer using my phone. Wide screen aren’t my favorite, I tend to lose the line I’m reading and might end up skipping a sentence or two.
Describe your desk
My desk??? Don’t have one. Since I share a room with a relative of mine, a desk doesn’t fit in our small room. Instead I opt for using the kitchen table and write there.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
As a child, I grew up coming and going from the United States to Mexico. Although I don’t remember a lot from when I was running around in the streets of Mexico, my culture has influenced me a lot to write about Latinx characters and write about Mexican folklore.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing when I was a child, but it wasn’t until I was in high school that I picked up a pen and began to write chaptered stories.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is allowing my characters to come out of my imagination and watching them live in my version of the world. Also, there’s nothing better than filling your mind feel lighter after writing down an idea that has been sitting there for the past week.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I’m not writing, I spend my time watching TV shows and movies, or I blog about my favorite shows and characters.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Nothing inspires me to get out of bed, I just remember that I have things to do, so I get up and do my thing while I mentally mope and whine.
