Interview with JC Goloubev
Published 2018-09-05.
When did you first start writing?
I'm not sure. As a teenager, I was writing songs and poems and then there was a break while I attended university. After uni, I went to film school so I began to write again. I had no idea what to write at first and in the first semester, I did write something pretty generic and not entirely my own stuff. After that though I took charge of our small film gang and since we had access to cameras, lights etc... I just wanted to experiment as much as possible. I ended up writing my own material and refined it as time went on. By the end of film school, I was pretty confident in my writing skills.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I study mostly and/or working on video projects. I'm curious about space, time, psychology, climate change etc... You'll often find me on Coursera or edX. I place the utmost importance on knowledge. I don't believe that anybody can create a proper piece of literature without a considerable amount of knowledge. You need to know what you're talking about or it comes out as forced, fake or just outright false.
What are you working on next?
A Sci-fi story set in the future. Initially, it was a stand-alone project but I am looking for ways to connect it to my first book "Beyond the obscure". But it takes me a long time to write something because I try hard to not make the story generic or too mainstream.
