Interview with Jessie Wrights

What motivated you to become an indie author?
Ever since I was a teenager, I've have dozens of stories in my head with characters regularly making themselves known in daydreams and dreams. Over time they have become almost real people to me and I think it's time I allow their stories to be told.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Since this is new account we will see.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Taking the images in my head, whether things of beauty or horror, and giving them form on the page so others can take those and bring them to life in their own minds.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't bring my stories to others for my enjoyment, the stories are already in my head, I can enjoy them whenever I want. I bring them to life for my fans, both current and future, so they can feel the wonder and joy I feel as I create these stories. Without fans there would be no point to me doing any of it. More then money, more then fame, bringing enjoyment to others through the written word is what makes it all worth while.
What are you working on next?
The next one on the way is the second in my Heavenly Chronicles series, Angelic Beast, where readers will get to meet Nareste. A wicked Draco who finds his mate, but she doesn't remember what she is. So in a slow seduction, he has to convince her that she's not human. But they will be constantly interrupted by minions sent to punish Nareste for his recent abandonment of his loyalty to Morningstar. The head honcho of Hades.
Who are your favorite authors?
Nalini Singh, Christian Feehan, Thea Harrison, Larrell Hamilton
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I've always had a wide range of interests. and will try almost anything once. I like to garden, craft, roller blade, bike, and hike.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I started out getting ideas from the book store. But now as part of the book community on social media, I have an endless number of books available to me.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was inspired by one of my favorite TV shows. Later titled Night Guardians, it is a story of a girl born between two very different cultures and she has to learn to live in them both.
What is your writing process?
It might be unconventional, I'm not really sure, but every story starts with a single scene in my head, it can be as little as a flash. But from that single image a story forms. It almost always ends up somewhere near the middle of the story and from there I have to back track to the beginning and then proceed to the end. It doesn't always end with a compete story but that's how it starts.
How do you approach cover design?
I don't always get to have the exact cover I want but they all center around the main theme or concept of the book as well as the setting. I'm not a fan of books with half naked people on the covers. If the only appeal it has is a promise of sex, which granted sometimes that's all someone wants, then it's not much of a story. I want the cover to reflect what might take place in the story or give the readers and idea of what the scene looks like so they can imagine the world around the characters.
