Interview with E.J. Wesley

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I'd spent years working on my craft in writing groups, drafting novels, and such. I finally wrote the story I knew I wanted to share with others, and the opportunity was there with sites like Smashwords. So I took it!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
When I start smiling, laughing, tearing up, etc. as I'm writing. That means I'm really getting into the story, and usually means the readers are going to as well.
What do your fans mean to you?
Reader support and feedback is truly the only reason I publish my work. If it wasn't for their encouragement my stories would probably gather dust on my computer forever.
What are you working on next?
I'm "cooking" a New Adult contemporary novel about a guy who is a fantastic college baseball player, but a really special failure at most of the rest of his life. It's about dealing with mental illness, falling in love, and friendship. Hopefully to be released summer 2014! And more Moonsongs stories, as always. :)
Who are your favorite authors?
Stephen King, J.K. Rowling, Tolkien, George R. R. Martin, John Green, Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris--just so many great talents I adore!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Living. I just want to experience, well, everything! I look forward to writing, spending time with loved ones, playing with my dogs--staying in bed would be a waste.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Playing guitar and video games. Reading graphic novels. Watching the Walking Dead. Cooking. Getting outside.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Book recommendations from friends is always tried and true. I also know a lot of authors, so I try to read my peers as often as I can.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I ever read (that wasn't assigned) was the Empire Strikes Back movie novel. I remember there were all these cool little tidbits and scenes that never even happened on film, and it blew my nine year-old mind! It was the first time I realized that words, and my imagination, could tell a story pictures would never be able to.

Armed only with an ancient family journal, her rifle, and an Apache tomahawk, Jenny must save her grandfather’s life and embrace her dangerous heritage. Or be devoured by it. Blood Fugue, by E.J. Wesley, is the first of the Moonsongs books, a series of paranormal-action novelettes.
