Interview with April Rencher

Published 2016-11-04.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up as a military brat. So, I was all over the Southeast of the United States. I think it encouraged me to write about my feelings at an early age.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing right after my open heart surgery when I was seven.
What's the story behind your latest book?
It is a continuation of my series. Basically, Brooke is caught between love and doing the right thing. She is surrounding by darkness. It is scary to her, because her life is pretty much carefree. This time is different. I think everyone goes through that dark period in a relationship, in school or even at work.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I wanted to do it on my own terms. I wanted full control of everything even to where the period placement was. Not to say, I wouldn't want a publishing deal. It just would've taken longer to get exposure.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
So far, they have helped me spread my content to virtually everywhere Amazon couldn't.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It is the reaction and compliments from my readers. It is nice to know that people think that you are talented and cannot wait to see what you come up next.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything to me. Without them, I wouldn't be writing this right now. They encourage me and are a part of my life. They care about my books, but they also care about me as well. I feel like I have a little community who is rooting for me. I do the same for them. They send me their pieces and I read them. Or, I'll repost one of their books. It is all about uplifting when it comes to people's craft.
What are you working on next?
I'm thinking of working on my poetry book next. Depending on what I hear about my latest book, I may start book #4.
Who are your favorite authors?
Zane, John Grisham
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I would definitely say to pay the bills. I would hate to be homeless. I need to get my butt to work.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time with my loved ones, cooking, going to bars, traveling, trying new cuisines or watching Netflix.
