Interview with Joy Oliver

What is your e-reading device of choice?
The Kindle. Like the paper-like screen and the battery life.
Describe your desk
Desk only has the essentials: computer, paper, pens and pencils. I like to keep my space clear; too much clutter makes me irritable.
When did you first start writing?
Started writing when I was about 10; I got my first diary and I still have it in storage.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My background is in accounting so making sure the numbers are right helps guide most of my decisions. When people talk about investing, they just talk surface level numbers, mostly to impress other people. That is not what people need. They need to know the real numbers and the pro's and the con's to doing any type of investing. What Can Notes Do for You is the first of a series of books that focus on personal finance and investing in real estate notes.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I like the speed and flexibility of it; I am responsible for my work and my ideas reach the reader without a filter.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has provided the platform and the tools I needed to get my book out to the public quickly and professionally
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
It helps me capture my thoughts. I have made sure that I always have a pen and pad ready in case I hear something I want to write about later.
What are you working on next?
Next two books I am working on to be released in the fall are "Keep Your Note Profits" and "Keep the Fun, Plan for the Future"
Keep Your Note Profits will focus on doing research on a note purchase in a way that the investor knows exactly what portion of the cash flow is going into his/her pocket, and what portion is to be separated and set aside for expenses.

Keep the Fun, Plan for the Future is about budgeting things people enjoy doing and making sure they save for their retirement no matter if they are in debt or not. I am not a fan of skipping out on fun just to use every penny to pay other people. Don't start at zero; pay your debt as quickly as possible, but make sure that you can enjoy life and save some cash relative to your current financial position.
What do your fans mean to you?
Fans are the people I want to help but end up helping me learn how to improve not only my writing, but the way I operate in all areas of life. I am very grateful for each person that takes the time to read my work.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I feel that God gives us an assignment when we wake up. I have woken up early to pray, read, and ended up with several book ideas that will keep me busy for several months at least. I just want to get the books in print so that the people that need to read them will have access to them.
