Interview with John Jonas

When did you first start writing?
At the beginning of 2012, I met an author at a book signing and began to think about writing my own book. After that, I caught myself thinking up different plots during my free time and it just took off from there.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
After I finished my first book, I wasn't really looking into publishing it. I wrote it to see if I could do it, and for the fun of it. After that, I looked up how to publish a book and decided this was the more interesting way to go.
What are you working on next?
I'm presently working on a sequel to Parallel Connection.
Who are your favorite authors?
Vince Flynn's Mitch Rapp is fun, Lee Child - the Jack Reacher series, Jeffery Deaver, Clive Cussler and James Patterson.
What is your writing process?
I always thought that most authors have the complete story in mind before they even begin the writing process; every detail and plot twist. I assume some do but not me. I start with an outline and begin typing, and the details work themselves out as I go. Also, I only write a chapter or two at a time.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have a day job in the computer industry and spend most of my off time with my family.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything by James Patterson, murder mysteries, a few science fiction ones and a few biographies. Vince Flynn and Lee Child are fun to read, Jonathan Kellerman and John Grisham also.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My wife and I have a Nook. She even let's me use it sometimes.
Describe your desk
A picture of my wife to the left of the screen and my granddaughter's is on the right. Not too messy, a few papers and notes here and there, a glass jar with candy in it ( jolly ranchers), a phone and some pens & markers.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in San Antonio, Texas, and I'm pretty sure it had no influence on my writing at all.
