Interview with A Mask

Are people ever 100 % true to others?
Practically "No" People speak all kind of lies to fool , to manipulate to swindle , for personal gains, out of fear, out of compulsion , not wanting to hurt others, the list is endless. There can never be anyone who speaks the complete truth and nothing but the truth. If there are people saying so then they are lying to themselves.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in kolkata / India and have had a good cosmopolitan group of friends while growing up. Have observed people and noticed what was not noticed on the face of things. How subtle manipulations were happening between people in every walk of life to get the best for themselves.Have seen wins and misses of others , have seen the rashness and conservatism in people at all ages. The content for my story has been picked up from real life experiences of others around me and hence they are so real.
When did you first start writing?
We actually I took around 5 years to write this book. I started with a story , then burnt out after writing the plots i had already decided on. Restarted added a couple of plots then again shut down. Finally a friend read my draft and motivated me to complete the story which I did. So the actual wring time must have been a year, but the gaps in between were long. Then went into editing mode which took about 3 months.Wanted to give the reader an experience. a ring side view through a life journey of an individual.
What's the story behind your latest book?
There is not a story, but there are multiple stories. The plots have been picked up from real life experiences of various people. Of course a lot of fiction has been added to make it interesting. Real Life stories have a more human angle to it and you can relate to the characters.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I had these crazy stories which I wanted to tell people, that was a primary reason that motivated me to write. Writing a book , creating a mystery and then closing with a climax has its own kicks. In certain scenes I went right inside the character and could feel what he or she was feeling.
What do your fans mean to you?
I am out to create fans. I am writing for fans. If there are no fans and no constructive reviews then it is not fun at all. Fans are the lifeline for any writer which eggs him to improve and give his best.
Who are your favorite authors?
I like quite a few of them : Sydney Sheldon/ Robin Cook/ Arthur Hailey / Mario Pruzo / Jeffery Archer / Arthur Conan Doyle / Robin sharma /Ekharte Tolle. I have shifted from fiction to knowledge.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I have only written 1 book till now and am a businessman in the Stock market.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Power Of Now .. if it was written 100 years earlier it would have been a sacred book.
The Godfather -- so fast paced , liked to see the changing faces of people
The Secret - the power to attract, yes we have the power
What do you read for pleasure?
now I read spiritual and motivational books . so much to learn. Such diverse views.
