Interview with Jenn Rekka

Published 2013-11-12.
What do you read for pleasure?
Ellis Peters/Edith Pargeter, Elizabeth Peters/Barbara Michaels, and as a child, Walter Farley.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Last Assault on Oak Island and Room of Fire are both based on existing unsolved mysteries from history. They're always fascinated me. All the storylines in Rediscovered are still unsolved.
Describe your desk
Cluttered, maps everywhere, sticky-notes on every surface, scraps of things to add into books or prompts for new books. It's really terrible. It looks more like a mess than inspiration.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Back in the age of typewriters, there were few options for writers. Traditional publishers could only say "yes" so many times, and not often to an unproven author. Smashwords has opened up opportunities for writers to make their own way and take their own chances without a hardcopy publisher behind their work.

The distribution avenues Smashwords provides, like Kobo and Barnes and Noble, are excellent. It's great to see the traditional publishers recognize and work hand-in-hand with Smashwords and its authors. There's always room for another book.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Hearing a reader say they're glad they read the book and they want another story.
What are you working on next?
More of the Rediscovered series.
