Interview with John Urich

Published 2014-11-24.
When did you first start writing?
This summer I started writing after a motorcycle accident. My mother-in-law also needed home care. I feel I'm making better use of my brain writing rather than watching tv. I still read, though.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My only story published to date is a wonderful childhood adventure intended for my grandkids, and I want to share it with the world.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Reading. I've read hundreds of books since my retirement, many of them free, or very economical. Writing seemed the logical step since I have things to say and publishing has become so easy with the guidance and tools provided freely by Smashword, Amazon, and others. The I-pad, Kindle and other readers have made it possible to carry your library in your pocket, or at least in your hand.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords is the only reason I published my first work. They make it simple for someone to accomplish it without expense, except time, with professional guidance, and with help in promotion, distribution, and financial management.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The amazing flow of ideas which seem to appear at times without effort.
