Interview with Justin Williams

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
No, not when I was really young, but the first story I wrote when I decided that I wanted to write and release material, yes, I remember that, and that will be released at some stage.
What is your writing process?
I get an idea from somewhere and most of the time very quickly, I'll have the start and conclusion to the story with an idea about the middle and jot those ideas down and then think about it for the next few days and then start writing more
What are you working on next?
I have a novella that I'm putting the finishing touches on as well as a few more short stories which I hope will be released by February 2016
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love spending time with my family as well as getting to the beach, even walking along the beach in the winter, all wrapped up of course, is a great feeling, looking out over the waves
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything, if I didn't have my fans buying my work then my writing career would not exist.
How do you approach cover design?
I think about what I have written then a few ideas come to me and I do a rough drawing of what I imagine I would like the cover to look like, if it fits with what I feel suits the story then I go to a professional designer and get them to create a cover based on my drawing.
Describe your desk
My desk starts of nice and clear but over a few weeks things start to pile up and then I spend a half day clearing it as I feel a clear desk will let my ideas flow in
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in South Taranaki which is on the west coast of the North Island of New Zealand. It has a beautiful mountain in the middle of the province and access to a beach is very close, thinking about the things that have happened from my childhood and growing up will be a basis for some of my future work.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I liked the idea that I could publish anything I wanted, I didn't need to stick to one particular genre.
