Interview with Kristine Angela

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I love traveling, hiking and going to the beach!
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I ever read was Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham. It was soon after that, I wrote a poem entitled, Reading is my life that also rhymed. I wrote it when I was 6 years old.
How do you approach cover design?
I have a fantastic illustrator and we spent countless hours researching colors that popped and designs that we were drawn to as well as the font. He came up with the most perfect looking cover I could ever imagine after we blended several ideas together.
What are your favorite books?
For Children's books, I love Green Eggs and Ham, Oh the Places You'll Go, Where the Sidewalk Ends and any Berenstain Bear book I have ever read. For other books, I am drawn to The Secret, The Power and The Power of Now.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Social media has been the most helpful thing for me. Parents all over the world send in videos and pictures for Cuppy's Journey as I have been posting them on his Instagram account. You can see them at https://www.instagram.com/cuppythespecialcupcake/
Describe your desk
A mess lol. My desk is basically papers and books all over the place. Somehow in my mess, I know exactly where everything is.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Chicago, IL and it will always have a special place in my heart. I was lucky to grow up in the Midwest in schools that taught me the value of reading and writing. I also traveled with a children's theatre group and that helped open up my eyes to how important imagination is as both a child and adult.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind Cuppy is the realization of how perfect he is in an imperfect world.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has helped spread Cuppy's journey.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing has been the countless pictures and videos parents have been sending me of their little ones reading and loving Cuppy.
What are you working on next?
I am working on another book that will not be in the Cuppy series as well as a list of ideas to continue the Cuppy series and a book tour around the world reading with children of all ages.
