Interview with Kanyisa Baduza

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have a good story to tell and I want it to be told as I would like it told.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Telling my story and hopefully entertain if not motivate others.
What do your fans mean to you?
They symbolize the level of appreciation for my story.
What are you working on next?
Continuation of My Journey Through Certah.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My Dad, Mom and baby sister. Just the thought of them feeling bad cos I am not in a good place in life never sits well with me. So, I get up every day cos of them.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I am not at work I love to pamper myself with spa body treatments; reading or watching adventure; action or comedy or romance movies/tv. I especially love to laugh.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, it was actually a poem and I published it on my blog. Lol it made sense only to me!
What is your writing process?
I dont think I have one yet. I am still new to this and I just flow with the creativity as it comes. If I dont feel it I dont write.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes, its called A Stranger With My Face. I was so proud of myself cos it was the first book I had ever managed to finish reading, ever. I was in junior high at the time and reading was really not my thing, nothing could hold my attention very long.
How do you approach cover design?
I have only managed to get one done so far. So again I dont have a system as yet. Half of the design and character came as I was writing the book and when I finished writing it, I went through the internet looking to solidify the idea and surely I came across these two very inspiring pictures. I looked up a cover designer and I found Katrina who turned the two images into this amazing original cover. She spinned the whole thing around but still captured the character and story of the cover.
Describe your desk
Lol ! an organized mess !
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town, Welkom in the middle of South Africa. My writing is rooted in wanting to give back (hopefully) one day to my hometown. It's small but it has raised a whole lot of big people in terms of thinking and my generation is definitely one of them; very open minded and more driven than it would be expected of small town people. This is not only because some of us attended private schools but I see the same drive in my other peers who did not have the same privilege. People there have a lot of potential. And it is in this potential that I would like to sow and help cultivate.
