Interview with Moehr and Associates

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I like to paint, cook and spend time with my family: hubby, daughter and two furry babies (aka kitties)! I also love to spend an hour or two at sunset, have a glass of wine and enjoy the gorgeous colors of our desert sunsets. This is one of my favorite things to do (with a good cheese and my family).
What is your writing process?
My writing process is different for fiction and non-fiction. For fiction, I find I may end up "out in the wilderness with no way to return" if I don't outline the story first. I am free to veer from the outline, but when I get stuck I have something to refer to that keeps me on-track. For non-fiction, I usually research, compile notes and then jump right in. I find I can keep moving forward on non-fiction without an outline (why? who knows!).
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Not, not the first, but as a kid, I was the one with the flashlight reading until late into the night (curse alarm clocks and getting up early for school!). I loved my Nancy Drew, Harriet the Spy, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and then ventured to Stephen King as I grew up. Great memories and books!
How do you approach cover design?
I try to keep them clear and simple, eye-catching and colorful.
What do you read for pleasure?
I like a good mystery (Sandra Brown), romance or non-fiction. I find I'm always interested in learning and taking in more new information that teaches me and inspires me.
When did you first start writing?
I've been writing since I was a kid, but didn't really start to WRITE until about 2003 when I completed my first book.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I do like my tablet, but give me a good, old-fashioned book/print any day!
What motivated you to become an indie author?
Don't you just love the indie author and indie publishers? I do...so much freedom, ability to move around as we want and to give readers what they want without being penned in (no pun intended)!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Creating. Nothing like it!
What are you working on next?
I've got a book about angels I'm working on. Also, I'm outlining a new mystery/romance about secrets in an apartment building (oooohhh!).
Who are your favorite authors?
Judy Blume, Stephen King (I love his candor), Carolyn Keene (got me reading as a kid), Arthur Golden, Janet Fitch, Gillian Flynn...I also like vintage Danielle Steel and Sandra Brown.
