When did you first start writing?
I was 10 and my family was in Oklahoma for the summer. We lived near this abandoned old trailer with a ton of old photographs strewn over the floor. My mind went to work, trying to figure out why someone would leave them there like that. A writer was born.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing itself. I write for love, not money, and that's probably a very good thing, but I would write even if I never made a penny. I love creating characters and their stories so much, it's the greatest joy in this career.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I found an old, waterlogged, cloth-covered Nancy Drew mystery. I must have read it a million times. It's the only book I owned. And the dictionary. Yes, I read that from cover to cover, too.
