Interview with K J Thompson

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Eastern Kansas, contrary to popular belief Kansas isn't all flat. We do have some hills....mounds.....bumps really, but the point is it is not all flat. The town I grew up in was very, very small population of 500 and that was counting the cows. I know it sure influenced my reading because there was absolutely nothing else to do in this small town. As for the way I write, I would say it has made me a more colorful writer.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My husband bought me a kindle for Christmas a few years back and I downloaded over a hundred books. Found one of my favorite authors while reading these books and she is an indie author and inspired me to follow suit.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has made this whole process so much easier to get my book out there for people to see faster than I could have ever done on my own.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
The greatest joy of writing for me is seeing the stories that I have in my head come together on the pages. I get swept up in the characters and only hope that my readers do the same when they read it.
What are you working on next?
I have already started book two of The Fixer series. It will be out in 2015 I have not set a date yet.
Who are your favorite authors?
When I was younger my favorite authors were V.C. Andrews and Steven King. But now that I am an indie author fan my new favorite is JD Nixon.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Well....I don't think I am any different than anyone else when it comes to doing what you have to do each day. That is to get out of bed and go to work so you can pay the bills.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Right now I am a buyer at a local automotive parts plant during the day. I like to read, play golf, fish, and paint pavers to pass the time.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I am a terrible cliché, I do judge a book that I read by it's cover. If the cover attracts my attention then I am sure as heck going to read it. Then if I find an author that I like I will read everything they write. I also love series books because I don't like it when a book ends and still leaves me with wanting more.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read all my eBooks on my kindle.
