Interview with Kathryn Long

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing gives me the opportunity to release my evil twin -- kill people, destroy people, and blow things up!
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Small town, USA! Actually, my hometown is/was very ethnic. Lots of Serbs, Czechs, Germans, and Irish. My family--mother's side, which is full of Serbs--and the town, gave me my inspiration for the Lilly M. Mysteries. Why else give Lilly the last name -- Millenovanovich? LOL. Inspirational, comical, entertaining. My family has it all.
What do you read for pleasure?
Mysteries! I love all kinds -- cozies, thrillers, suspense, psychological, historical. Can't get enough of them! Plus, it helps keep my analytical writer brain sharp by sorting through the puzzle pieces of the mystery.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
What's the story behind your latest book?
I was watching the show, THE CATCH, and I decided writing a series about con artists would be fun. My protagonist gets to do all kinds of illegal stuff and get away with it! Seriously, writing this has given me so many creative outlets. I love it. Now, hoping to get it published and out there for readers to enjoy!
Who are your favorite authors?
I have so many favorites. Some of my top choices are each for different reasons. Janet Evanovich for her humorous characters; James Patterson for his fast-paced plots; and Stephen King for his rich, quirky and glorious writing. His reads are like eating a steak and baked potato dinner! Filling and tasty :-)
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
It's given me the venue to all types of e-book formats. Plus, for whatever reason, my e-books sell very well, here. AND I can offer freebie promotions whenever I want! Lots of wiggle room and opportunity with Smashwords.
What are you working on next?
I have several projects in the works. I've published books with small presses -- DYING TO DREAM and A DEADLY DEED GROWS. So, I'll be taking that route, and I'm anxious to see what happens. In the meantime, I've started a fourth and final Lilly M. Mystery. Don't want to give anything away, but there are wedding bells involved. Hopefully, I'll have it up and running by the end of spring.
What is your writing process?
Outline. Write. Edit. Repeat
When did you first start writing?
I think I was seven when attempting to keep a diary. It's sad to look at, now. Haha!
