Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Los Alamos, NM -- the home of the Manhattan Project -- and it has influenced my writing, and my life, in many ways. Being surrounded by that many geniuses and great minds makes you work that much harder to stay on track with the average resident. I also tried my hardest to find a career as opposite to science as I could, which is probably why I ended up a writer.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing quite young -- I always loved stories. My favorite computer game in the early 90s was Storybook Weaver, a game where you wrote storybooks and got to illustrate them with clip art.
Describe your desk
My desk has two modes: incredibly organized and coordinated and complete disarray when I actually am writing. When I am writing there are post-it notes, pens, multitudes of notebooks and scrap paper all surrounding my laptop.
