My desk is always neat--too neat, maybe? My pencils are in the upper left, my writing binder to the right, and Divergent in front of me because Veronica Roth inspires me.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Kent, in the UK. It was ALWAYS cold there. In the Motionless series, especially in Reincarnate, Hazel is always saying what I say about the cold...and I probably can't say it on here. XD
When did you first start writing?
8th year. I was forced to write, and I ended up loving it.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Seeing people's faces during a plot twist. It's just so awesome when their eyes widened and their jaw drops. And I don't even think that they're aware of it. But that just confirms that I did a really good job with my writing.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean that I actually had an impact on their lives! When I get fans, I'll actually reply to fan mail! I hope!
What are you working on next?
I'm currently working on Creatures (Motionless Book 1). Next is actually going to be The Whorror, the prequel to the series, which is cowritten by two close friends of mine. :3
Who are your favorite authors?
Veronica Roth and Rick Riordan. I've been reading Rick Riordan books since The Lightning Thief came out, and Divergent, well, I always keep it on my desk to provide inspiration. Especially for the epilogue of the Motionless series, When Love Met Destruction, because it inspires a dystopian feel.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The smell of cookies! My roommate, Ana, bakes cookies every morning, because sweet things help me think straight!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Listening to metal music, like Motionless in White, Asking Alexandria, Suicide Silence, A Day to Remember...lots of bands, lots of merch too. I also listen to Black Veil Brides and fall all over Ashley Purdy. When I'm not doing THAT, I'm watching Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds and crushing on Kazama Soichi, binging on Sherlock, Supernatural, or Doctor Who, or eating my roommate's cookies.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes! It was about The Abominable Snowball! I wrote it 8th year, and compared to my drafts of Creatures, it is AWFUL.
What is your writing process?
1. Think of an idea 2. WRITE IT DOWN. 3. Word vomit (write and don't look back) 4. Edit 5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 until you are ready to send the story to your publisher.
How do you approach cover design?
I normally ask a 14-year-old girl that I call Neko to make the cover. She makes AMAZING covers. She actually created the cover for Creatures/Infamous/Reincarnate, and is currently working on The Whorror's cover. Thanks, Neko!
What do you read for pleasure?
Normally Divergent, any of Rick Riordan's books, anything by Lois Lowry, the Hex Hall books, or--admittedly--the Dork Diaries series.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My phone or my Surface tablet. If I know I need it for something else, I don't break/lose it.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Creatures, Book 1 of Motionless, is basically about exclusion, forbidden love, and vampires that are trying to survive slayers and a family that is trying to kill them. Sorry, it's about 2:05 my time, I'm exhausted...
