Interview with Kayleigh King

What motivated you to become an indie author?
I have always enjoyed writing but I've never really tried to be published. I'd seen articles online talking about self-publishing and the new ways of getting your books out there and it amazed me. My wife urged me to give it a try so I did. I've published one novella and I'm quickly planning my next.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords has been amazing. It's allowed me to make my book available in so many formats, allowing me to get my book out to as many people as possible. The ease of use, made it so appealing also.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
My greatest joy of writing is bringing my ideas to life and hoping that someone reads it and is entertained.
What do your fans mean to you?
I'm not sure I have any fans but if I do, or ever do then it would mean the world. It would be fantastic for someone to enjoy what I've written so much to be able to call themselves a fan.
What are you working on next?
At the moment I am working on the next volume of the 'Wicked' series, which will be followed next year by my first full time mystery novel.
Who are your favorite authors?
I love reading a variety of genres. My favourite authors are Roald Dahl and Marian Keyes. Dahl has been a favourite since childhood and I will always adore his stories. Marian Keyes is amazing and I love everything she has ever written. She writes the most compelling characters and I am in awe of that ability.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My wife is my inspiration. I absolutely adore her, she is also my best friend. Everyday with her is amazing.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read a lot of mystery and crime books, but my guilty pleasure is comic books.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I read all my ebooks on a touch screen laptop and a blackberry playboo.
Describe your desk
I actually don't have/use a desk. I write cross-legged with my laptop on my knees. I am quite a messy person so I write with all my notes and information strewn all around me.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I spend my time watching an inordinate amount of Murder, She Wrote. It's actually something I have loved since I was a small child.
