Interview with Jared Arnold

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I usually go online and check out the free books first...cause I'm cheap like that. If something strikes me I get it, read it and then find more like it. Occasionally, a friend will recommend something to read. Whether I read it or not depends on how persistent that person is in their recommendation.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first story I ever read was "The Five Chinese Brothers". I don't even know if you can still buy it. It was VERY stereotypical bordering on racist. But it was great simple story telling.
What do you read for pleasure?
I always read a lot of Stephen King when I was younger. But, I just finished "Unbroken" That was the most amazing book I have ever read. Stop reading this right now and go get a copy!
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use my Phone for almost everything outside of the house. I have an e-reader app that serves the purpose. The text is kind of small, but gets the job done.
Describe your desk
I have no desk. I write from my big comfy chair late at night so I don't disturb my family.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Which book? Matka is a ghost story. I have always been interested in the paranormal and have had some experiences with what I believe are spirits myself. I chronicled one such experience in my short story "Sister Eternal" available for free all over the place.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I enjoy writing. It was something that was a hit or miss. I picked up a copy of "Write, Publish, Repeat" one day and had the epiphany that it is something that I can do. We all have stories to tell. Go tell one!
What are you working on next?
I am looking at doing a Serial based on a character my 6year old came up with a couple of years ago. His name is The Mysterious he fights the evil Dr. Squidapus and attempts to thwart his evil plans.
Who are your favorite authors?
King. The man's mind doesn't quit.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. If it weren't for them, I'd just be a big puddle of goo.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Losing myself in another reality. That is what I always loved about reading, too. But with writing you get a little more control. I say a little, because the characters usually take over and let you know what they want to do.
