Interview with Kiexiza Rodriquez

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story i wrote was an essay back in junior high. It was about what i wanted to be when i grew up. A singer, a beautician, and build my dream home... oh and how can i forget i wanted a bunch of horses! LOL
What is your writing process?
My process has evolved over the years. When my life was far less complicated, I would write in the evening when the kids were sleep. No problem. Now, things are different. So i have to be purposeful about my writing, finding time here and there to write and hoping i can calm my mind enough to focu on the words and not drift to FB LOL.
But usually a glass of red wine and some music help me.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I was never a big reader. the first book i read that i really liked was by another self published author, after i had already begun my author journey. It pulled me in so much and to this day i truly love that book.
How do you approach cover design?
I love my designer. I call her and give her the title and synopsis and we go back and forth over ideas. Ill send her some pictures, and i have a few friends that even model for me. I really like to have people to bring the characters to life and want to use stock art as less as possible. shell send me some ideas until we get it right. But most times i see the book ocer in my mind before i even begin to write.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Chantes song, by Donielle Jackson
Valentine, D. Hent
Voices behind the Tears by Saving Lives Through Lit
Vengeance Unleashed by Tony wade

All of these books in one way or another moved me.
What do you read for pleasure?
I currently dont have a lot of time to read like i want. I download a lot of books but dont often read them.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Kindle
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Radio shows, Passing out flyers day to day where I am. Mailing flyers to street teams or people willing to pass them out to others around the country to get the word out. Social media like Fb hasnt really improved sales as much as hand to hand.
Describe your desk
What desk? LOL still working on a dedicated work space. My lap, couch, chair they all work for now
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
Springfield Mass, the birth place of basketball.
My whole life is a book. When i was talked into writing my book, i had no idea i wanted to be an author. It wasnt my lifes goal. But now, I just want to be good at it. I love it.

How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Its helped open me up to an audience tht may have never knew of me before.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to have no limits on what i can do. NO limits where my characters can go or what they can do. Its as limited as my imagination...and my time.
What do your fans mean to you?
Oh they are EVERYTHING> I mean without them, im just someone writing for fun. They trun this into something that really means something. their words, whether good or bad help me grow, teach me what they like and dont like or want to see more of. They share me and tell others about me... They are my lifeline.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Legacy. Wanting to leave more than just bills for my children. Wanting to leave something they can be proud of. Something to say we came so far from where we were amd mom made her life her own and so can I.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Cooking, baking listening to music my other passions. Volunterring at church and tending to my family.
