Interview with Kim Cormack

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I was in elementary school and it was a horror story. My parents were probably both traumatised and proud :)
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe By C.S Lewis. It's not the first story I read, but it was the first time I remember feeling the magic of the written word.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Tales of the Fourth Grade nothing and Super Fudge by Judy Blume. C.S Lewis's Lion Witch and The Wardrobe series. The Lord of The Rings series and Charlotte's Web. I know it's more than five books, but I've read these stories multiple times.
What do you read for pleasure?
I never get tired of Robert Munsch. I've read his books to both of my children.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
When I read books from other authors I usually read them from my laptop on an epub app or kindle app. I'm not picky ;)
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I have an absolutely insane amount of twitter followers. I'd say Twitter @kimcormack
Describe your desk
I have a laptop attached to a larger screen and a familiar keyboard. I'm definitely a creature of habit. I have a motivational stone that says, "Do one thing every day that scares you." I have a zombie pen holder with the pen inserted to impale the zombie and pictures of my kids. A giant hunk of rose quartz, some other stones. and shells. I also have a broken ceramic hula girl. I know it's weird, but it works for me :)
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island. My series begins on the island.
When did you first start writing?
I've always been writing in one form or another.
What's the story behind your latest book?
"WILD THING," is a side series about Lexy, the dragon of Ankh. (Emotional Dragons not green scaly ones) It explains how she became a partially immortal hitman for clan Ankh. Her backstory and delves into the complicated relationship she has with her handler. It's a dark twisted comic tale about a girl learning to become something more than she thought she was capable of becoming on the inside. This story travels so far into the deep end that you'd best bring a life raft with you when you start reading it. Shock and awe. That's what you can expect to feel while reading this side series.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love the emotional journey of it all, knowing that I bawled my head off or laughed hysterically while I wrote a scene. I know if I went on an emotional journey while writing, that the readers will while reading.
What do your fans mean to you?
They mean everything because those are the people that understood the journey I was trying to take them on.
What are you working on next?
I'm writing Let There Be Dragons. The third book in the main series. I'm also writing the Brothers of Prophecy series. Once in a while I pop over to the Repopulation Project and Bring Out Your Dead. I should probably be a spokesperson for ADHD meds. :)
Who are your favorite authors?
C.S Lewis J.R.R Tolkien Stephen King ;) I have a few
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My two kids.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
With my two kids and my family
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Usually, they are from other authors. There is a huge pile in my inbox.
