Interview with Kim Jones

Published 2013-10-08.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. I was in the third grade, and I had to write a story consisting of one hundred words that had to be fiction and had to have an illustration. The illustration sucked, but the story was good enough to win first place in my grade. :).
What is your writing process?
I don't really have a process. I simply sit down and write whatever comes to mind. Marlboros, sweet tea and google are my best friends. I hear other authors who have outlines and chapters named before they even began writing their story... I wish I were that organized.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first one, but I do remember that as a teen, V.C. Andrews was my hero. I still love her work and have read everyone of her books.
How do you approach cover design?
Well, I have a super sexy friend who is a bodybuilder. We went to school together, and he was nice enough to pose for my covers when I begged him. We shot the cover for Saving Dallas in the basement of his gym. My husband pulled his bike down there and if you look really close you will see what appears to be a helmet on the front seat. It is not a helmet. It is the photographers husband's head.

Making the Cut was done by him and another friend of mine. It was quite racy, but a lot of fun. We had plenty of wine to get us through.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
The Coldest Winter Ever by Sister Souljah-It's real, raw and about the life of a drug lords daughter. I have read it ten times.
Heaven by V.C. Andrews-My all time fav about a girl who was raised in the hills
Fifty Shades of Gray by E.L. James-I'm in love with Christian Gray... That is all.
Callie by Dave Sargent-A story of a young Indian girl who marries a Texas Ranger and life in the west. It's truly inspiring... and a true story
The Bible-I'm a Christian.. I believe Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, and although this book is quite complicating at times, it is my lifeline.
What do you read for pleasure?
Everything! From biography to fiction.. I love it all.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I have the Kindle app on my Samsung Galaxy S4... I have thought of getting a Kindle, but I take my phone with me everywhere and the screen is pretty big.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I don't really market my book like I should. Yes, I am ashamed. Although, I do have a facebook page and Twitter.
Describe your desk
I don't have one... But, I am working on opening a small book store, so hopefully I will have one very soon! Right now, my thighs are holding up my laptop.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
In a small town in Mississippi. I have travelled to many places, but there is no place like home. Everyone should live here. It is wonderful!
When did you first start writing?
Poems? Since I was about 10.
Songs? About 18
Novels? October 2012
