Interview with Adimu Ali

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Knowing that I have not completed my mission.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading or listening to something relevant to something I'm doing, trying to do, or planning to do.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Browsing Smashwords of course!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do. I attempted to illustrate what I thought it would be like to develop a dynasty. It was all about building a strong family, something I have yet to experience on a grand scale among my people.
What is your writing process?
The answer to a question comes to mind and I write about it.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
"The Thief of Letters" had me feeling some type of way. I appreciate my mom for pushing me to master the language as best I could. That has helped me tremendously.
How do you approach cover design?
I probably shouldn't! I do look at what others do and what might seem to be a "catchy" cover and might use that as a guide.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
I absolutely love "The Qur'an" because it is so convincing as a book written in the first person! I like the book called "The Gospel of Barnabas" for its biographical prose and incorporation of known scriptures from the new testament of "The Bible". I like Queen Afua's "Sacred Woman" for its focus on the most sublime qualities of character and feminine thought. A man (heterosexual) could truly appreciate such a woman. "The Autobiography Malcolm X" was a great read and although tragic, it was inspiring. And "Roots", also filled with tragedy and travesty, was an inspiring read. I do believe those books among others have shaped my very thinking.
What do you read for pleasure?
Posts on Facebook of course! I really love to read about technology.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
My laptop. I tire of holding the other devices.
What are you working on next?
The answer to racial strife in America and globally.
