Interview with Kennii Monet

What motivated you to become an indie author?
The desperate need to put all my thoughts on a page.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to see a finished work or having someone tell me that they enjoyed reading it.
Who are your favorite authors?
Ellen Hopkins, Edgar Allen Poe, Francesca Lia Block, and so many others.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Writing, reading, and a cup of coffee.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading and listening to music.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
The first story I ever wrote wasn't a story at all It was poem, and I was in the seventh grade. It was about pain and loss.
What is your writing process?
I tend to listen to music, if I am writing a story that involves characters, I create names and personalities, and appearances. Then I out line a plot and finally fill in the gaps. With poetry though I don't have a process I simply sit down a let all of my thoughts out in no particular order.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
Roses and Bones. Myths. Tales. and Secrets By Francesca Lia Block, because it is written in a way that you can never forget and you just want to read it over and over again. Everything is just so well developed and you just want to jump in this world she has created.

That is my favorite book of all time and nothing else really compares.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything by Francesca Lia Block, Sarah Dessen, Ellen Hopkins, Edgar Allen Poe, Jay Asher, Alyson Noel, and Cadence Bushnell
When did you first start writing?
When I was in the seventh grade officially. A little bit in the sixth.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a small town, but I have to say hardly anything about the town or the people influenced my writing, what influenced my writing are the bizarre thoughts in my head.
