Interview with Kimber Hack

Published 2015-09-14.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I enjoy reading so many different styles of books and think that this was the best way to start getting my stuff out there and getting feedback to keep improving my end product.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My latest book is about a young woman finally stepping out of her cousin's shadow and making a stand for herself after she loses her almost fiancé to her cousin right before the holidays. Her sexy boss needs to pretend to be in a committed relationship to escape an unwanted business development and after agreeing to play the role of lover, she has to do everything in her power to make sure it stays make believe and not lose her heart along with her job.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
Smashwords made it so easy to get my finished works out there for people to see. The support and easy to follow guides were very helpful and super easy to follow.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Getting lost in the story line and always pushing myself to be more creative. I've read some books and as soon as I finished them, I would think I would have done such and such or the way they put that really came alive in my head.
What do your fans mean to you?
I appreciate any feedback that I get. If something isn't working for a story line and others see it, then that gives me an opportunity to make adjustments going forward to put out a better product. At the end of the day, you want them to enjoy your story and feel like reading your work was worth the effort.
What are you working on next?
I am currently putting the finishing touches on a story with another athlete, but this one is about the family dynamic of the heroine and how that plays out.
Who are your favorite authors?
In the historical romance writing world, it is Johanna Lindsey, Sabrina Jeffries and Stephanie Laurens. Modern day romance is still Penny Jordan and Lynne Graham. For me, their writing styles are so smooth.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
If I find an author I like I will see what else they have out there. There are many sites that will show other stories that are comparable so I will look through those as well as just typing in the style of book I am looking for and see what comes up.
What is your writing process?
I will come up with a story in my head and kind of talk it through to see if it makes sense. Then I will sit down and get as many thoughts down in writing before building it up as a story. Sometimes, it will end up going into a completely different direction than I anticipated.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I do. I even remember the names of the characters. I read my first romance book over thirty years ago and a few years back I read it again. It was very interesting to see how far books have come over the years.
