Interview with Lacy Flanigan

When did you first start writing?
Two years ago
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I liked how anybody who had a passion to write was not stopped because they were unable to get a company to look at their work, for whatever reason maybe their name was unknown etc. but was able through Smashwords to see their work published! This company offers a great way to let your hard work and passion be viewed abroad!
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
I just have to say what a great company Smashwords has been, from the start they were helpful with the pages of questions and answers. The easy access to step by step instructions from the start and just a cool way to be able to have your work seen all over the world!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
To be able to let my mind and the readers mind go places, meet people and for just a moment out of their busy lives go somewhere or maybe be somebody else and relax and enjoy the unknown!
What do your fans mean to you?
A great deal! I enjoy the feed back of how they enjoyed the book, the good or bad. Fans can be such a great support and it is wonderful to know that you were able to bring some happiness to them!
What are you working on next?
The story of Ben's brother, of his change and his growing up. The rock bottom moments and the ability to really see things for what they are!
Who are your favorite authors?
Beverly Lewis and Charolette Bronte
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
God first and formost I also have a wonderful husband that I enjoy being with every day!!!
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading lol I love to read but the outdoors are always a nice way to relax. Kayaking and fishing, camping with family. My family is very close so get-togethers are common.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Surfing mainly, that's how the good, bad and ugly are found :) there are alot of different types of books and I encourage people not to judge a book by its cover because alot of good books are missed that way. Give authors you have never heard of a chance and you maybe suprised.
How do you approach cover design?
I want the cover on the book to be what I see with my minds eye. I push for my writing to be realistic and helpful to people who maybe can relate at different points in the story. We all come from different walks and if more of us would remember that, we could all live in a much better place. So my cover is very much my feelings toward the book in some way and I want the reader to be able to open it and enjoy!
What do you read for pleasure?
Christian romance and mystery. There is enough bad in this world to last a lifetime and when I read I want to fill my mind with the good and not the bad. Our minds are the gateway to our soul as I have heard it said, so that being said I don't want my spirit and mind being weighed down by misery and things that would depress my self. God is light and joy and peace he is many things and he expects us to follow his example of how he is. One way to do that is to watch what I put into my mind.
