Interview with Lady Toni

Who are your favorite authors?
Some of my favorite authors are Mary Higgins Clark, Toni Morrison, Margaret Johnson-Hodge,Anne Rivers Siddons, Stephen King, Douglas Adams, Mark Twain and Lewis Carroll. As you can see my tastes in books is all over. I don't like to limit myself to one kind of book.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The thought of having a brand new day with all kinds of possibilities in it gets me up each morning.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I'm a classically trained pianist so I'm often playing my piano, studying Chinese - I live in China, or doing school work. My day job is an English teacher here in China. I also enjoy cooking and learning local history and customs. I find that doing what I love inspires me in my other passions.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember the first story I wrote. Hopefully it will be here on smashwords soon. It is the first story, before that I had written poetry.
What is your writing process?
HAHAHA! More often than not riding the city busses here in China is how my writing process starts. Recently I started to write very short stories. Most bus rides are just long enough for me to start the writing process. I keep new stories on my phone or tablet and write when I'm between classes or having "down time" I write.
What do you read for pleasure?
Usually I read self help or informational books. Living in a foreign land my literature options a slimmer. I used to go to the library and get new books weekly but books here are in Chinese and I'm not good at reading that... YET. I have recently found a website where I can get ebooks of classic literature. That has been fantastic. I've re-acquainted myself with old friends in the classic book world. “Little Women" and “Anne of Green Gables" are two old friends I've rediscovered.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
Both are Chinese brands. My phone is Huawei and my tablet is Lenovo.
Describe your desk
A creative space with my notebooks with story ideas and my flash drives close by. On the wall I have Chinese, French and Italian vocabulary words.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Sharing with everyone who reads me what it is like to be a person somehow different from their peers.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything without them I'd be writing stories for myself.
