Can joining a Tampa dinner club be hazardous to your health?
Local author answers question in new mystery novel

Tampa, FL (Feb. 14) – Local author L. A. Lewandowski found Tampa the perfect setting for her new, stylish murder mystery, A Gourmet Demise: Murder in South Tampa, the sequel to her first novel, Born to Die: The Montauk Murders. The new book is the result of more than two years of research on local culture, gourmet food, and Cuban Santeria. In A Gourmet Demise, Ms. Lewandowski portrays the city of Tampa as no longer a forgotten backwater. Instead, it has evolved into a sophisticated paradise for modern day pirates and elegant socialites.

Ms. Lewandowski portrays a side of Tampa that many do not see. “The book overflows with what makes the Tampa Bay area the sultry haven it is,” she said. “Behind the manicured lawns of the waterfront mansions and palm-tree lined drives, secrets are whispered and confidences broken. Santeria, a misunderstood religion, rears its head as both an inspiration for an art exhibit and a motive for the slayings.”

A Gourmet Demise: Murder in South Tampa is available in both print and electronic editions at all major online retailers.

The author was born and raised in New Jersey and graduated from Rutgers University. She has lived in Tampa for twenty years, and has grown to appreciate the Tampa Bay lifestyle. A Gourmet Demise is her third novel. For more information please visit her Amazon author page:

Ms. Lewandowski also maintains a food blog called the Culture and Cuisine Club:

Why did you decide to include Santeria in your murder mystery?
Santeria is a religion brought by the Yoruba people from Africa when they were enslaved in Cuba. The rich culture and mystery surrounding their practices and animal sacrifices fit extremely well with my story. In addition, there is an established Cuban population in Ybor City, a part of Tampa, and Santeria is part of this culture. Tampa is a melting pot of many ethnicities, and pirate folklore. I was honored to highlight some of the traditions and lifestyle that makes Tampa a wonderful place to live.
Your characters enjoy a fabulous lifestyle. How do you do this research?
Lifestyle research is one of the best parts of the writing process. I am a foodie and home chef. I love experimenting with new recipes. My dinner club, the Culture and Cuisine Club, encouraged me to push the envelope. The world I create in my murder mysteries is a fantasy of fashion, exotic local, sex, passion, luxurious living... and fine food and wine. It is as much fun for me to write as it is for my readers to devour.
