Interview with Lana Portasi

Tell us a bit about yourself
I have traveled to over 80 countries in my life (so far) and my addiction to coffee is only overshadowed by my addiction to chocolate.
What made you want to become a writer?
The way that Tom Robbins used an entire page to describe the taste of Amanda’s pussy.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I remember very very clearly the first erotica I ever read. I was at a friends house, and we discovered her dad's penthouse magazines. We looked at all the pictures and of course got horny (as young gilrs do) but then we read the "letters" - That kind of made a few naughty things happen.
Tell us about a typical day in your life as a writer.
Two double espressos, read the news and then check to see if I have orders for stories. Usually I will do those first and then spend an hour or 2 on my novels, if there is any time left in the day. Oh...and maybe a visit to my vibrator drawer
What types of hero or heroine do you like best?
I really like the guy or girl that is not afraid to let themselves go, to give in to the pleasure. It’s not about dominance, but rather willingness. I like strong characters, I like pretty people that are confident and happy within themselves. Having said that, inner conflict makes for great storytelling
Do your books have a common theme or are they all different?
At the moment, I am writing short stories for clients, ranging from 500 – 10000 words. I cover pretty much everything. If it is naughty and sexy, I write about it. My imagination is pretty vivid.
In my own works, I am doing the Juiia series, the Spank series (naughty and kinky) and Venus Rediscovered (a full novel) and also following through on some of my own fantasies.
How long does it take you to write and then edit a story?
It depends on the subject of course, but I recently wrote a 5000 word story for a client in an hour. Like most writers (I think) I hate editing. It takes me ages to go through it and perfect it.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Traveling, reading or undertaking research for my work.
What do your fans mean to you?
Everything... I want to take them on journeys of absolute desire.
Do you have to be alone to write?
I certainly get a lot more work done if I write alone. It also allows me to get right into the fantasy. But it is a job that makes one....shall we say, wet
Describe your desk
A beach, a patio, a table at a cafe in Greece. Anywhere I have an internet connection.
How do you go about naming characters?
I usually dig up a name from the past. Someone that I briefly met that I thought was incredibly sexy. Male or female.
Is it easier to write about the characters if you find pictures of them before you write or do you write then find character pictures?
I never need pictures to write, my imagination is very vivid. You should spend just a half a day in my head!
Who are your favorite authors?
Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, Chuck Palahniuk.... this list could be very long
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
Espresso, the thought of being in Spain again and my loyal fans
When did you first start writing?
When I was about 13, I wrote my first erotica. I got into a heap of trouble too.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in California just north of the Golden Gate. I suppose that I was one of those girls that got branded as a slut back then. I was just exploring really - everyone was doing it. But that influenced me in many ways. After that I began to travel the world, and I am still doing that today.
Have you actually done the things you write about in your books?
Yeah, probably all of them. If I haven't, Ill try it before I write it.
