Lease on the Beach, Book 2 in the Damaged Goods Mystery Series. Then The Misadventures of the Laundry Hag: Hung Out to Dry.
Who are your favorite authors?
Janet Evanovich and Darynda Jones.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Cooking, experimenting with drink recipes and then cleaning up the mess I've made.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I like to try out free books, see if I enjoy the author's style. If the freebie gets me hooked I tear through the back list.
How do you approach cover design?
Depends on the book. Some books I have an idea that goes beyond my abilities. Others I just experiment with colors and images I think will blend well together. The Damaged Goods books were the most fun because I had a graphic artist design original Jackie Parker images which I set on a background.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
My street team, Hart's Hotshots. Word of mouth is the absolute best way to let people know you exist.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a refurbished lock house along the Delaware River. As an only child in a rural area, I think my imagination started churning early on.
When did you first start writing?
I've always made up stories, knowing I was going to be a writer "one day."' But I didn't sit down to work on my first book until 2003. It took me three years and it was a train wreck. It's good to get the bad out of the way so you can move on knowing there's nowhere to go but up.
What's the story behind your latest book?
Final Notice was actually inspired by the television show World's Wort Tenants. I'd been hunting for an unconventional mystery idea, something that allowed my heroine to insert herself into people's lives and get her into trouble.
Miami was my first choice of setting, because Florida has been hit particularly hard in the house market, making plenty of work for the Damaged Goods crew.
What do you read for pleasure?
Anything I can get my hands on. I like epic fantasy and science fiction romance as well as funny contemporaries and historical novels. I look for books that are different and authors that make their story personal for me.
