Interview with Laura Eckert

Published 2017-07-11.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing when I was in my late 20s - when I started college. I immediately enjoyed taking to a keyboard and writing from my heart.
Describe your desk
Neat and organized. Reference books are on a shelf above my computer at arms reach. I have two monitors to make research easier. A notebook is always right in front of me for note taking. My keyboard is on a pull-out shelf. After 5:00 pm, I typically have a glass of red wine next to my notebook.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The story behind my book is a very personal journey to heal from a broken past and find forgiveness and redemption.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
What motivated me the most to become an indie author is time. I am not the most patient person. I was learning from research that it could take months to more than a year for a traditional publisher to get a book to market. And that is after they give you a book deal! I am not a patient person and I would have gone crazy waiting that long. It is also very important for me to retain all rights to my writings - I wrote them and wanted to be able to make changes as needed.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Knowing that people are inspired by the words I've shared.
What are you working on next?
A Memoir on Youth Mission Trips!
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
I am inspired at the start of every day by simply being alive and having another opportunity to create and love.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Reading!
How do you approach cover design?
I rely on my daughter - she is a talented artist and designed the cover of my book, Just Another's Girl's Story!
What do you read for pleasure?
I enjoy reading Memoirs for pleasure.
