Interview with Lauren Elizabeth

What are you working on next?
I don't know if I should give that secret away just yet. What I will say is that you can expect both fiction and non-fiction from me.
What do your fans mean to you?
I don't consider myself to have "fans" really. My writing is my ministry. There are women in the Christian community that follow me on social media and my blog, but I consider them to be a part of my community. We're all a part of the body of Christ. I learn just as much from them as they do from me. That's a beautiful thing.
Who are your favorite authors?
I really like Priscilla Shirer. Her teachings are powerful and easy to understand.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
The fact that each day is new forgiveness and a chance to live out my purpose inspires me. With a post on Instagram or Facebook, with a prayer on my blog, the Holy Spirit can be touching someone's life through me. That makes me feel honored and humble.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
When I'm not writing, I enjoy photography and making perfumes. If you're following my blog, Scents of Grace, I'll show you how.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Honestly, just by looking. Google is a wonderful thing.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I can recall many stories I wrote in childhood. I'm not so sure of the very first one. What's interesting is that when I was a kid, my characters were...interesting. I loved to make shapes (many times circles) my characters. Animals were probably my next favorite to characterize (usually fish and sea life).
What is your writing process?
It differs with each format, honestly. If it's a collection of prayers, I often find myself sprinting across the house to find my notebook. I just have to get it on paper before I forget. When I've written down several prayers that revolve around the same thing, I make them into an eBook.

With fiction, it's far different. I'll have an idea. I'll think (even dream) about the idea, and then I try to develop a plot around it. If I cant let go of the characters and that plot idea, I'll sit down and outline it. Then, I flesh it out from there.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't recall the very first thing I ever read.
How do you approach cover design?
I keep the title in the back of my head. Then, I look for images that would communicate something about that title. Finally, I ask myself, "how can I use these images in a striking way?"
What are your five favorite books, and why?
1. The Bible
2. Fervent by Priscilla Shirer
3. Um..
4. ...I
5. ...don't know. Sorry.
What do you read for pleasure?
For pleasure, I read books by christian authors. I like to do this because I can see the Bible and Christian life in a way that I never have before. I also like craft books.
