Interview with Lavinia Urban

How do you discover the ebooks you read?
Through friends and family
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I remember a series I wrote back in High school, which I still have. Back then I was going to publish it. One of my children have asked me to publish it but I am unsure.
What is your writing process?
Each book varies. It can be pen and paper and then I type it up. Lately though, I tend to use a notepad on my phone then e-mail it to myself before copying and pasting it into the document.
How do you approach cover design?
It depends on the story. I normally try and think about what I want the reader to see when they look at the cover. I need it to represent the story and also make it eye catching. I can go back and forth for months. If it is a series it needs to follow a pattern.
What do you read for pleasure?
I love reading a wide variety of books from Horror to True story to Romance and Paranormal. The story has got to suck me in.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
I am still learning that one. It is one thing I struggle at. I have been able to get lots of followers but getting all of those followers to buy my books is a whole different story.
Describe your desk
My lap lol. I honestly do not have one. I either have my laptop on my lap or my mobile phone for when I am walking around.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in a town in Cheshire, England. It wasn't necessarily the place I grew up that influenced my writing but more of a desire and need to write. I started off writing poetry for different situations and then it grew from there.
When did you first start writing?
Around the age of twelve, may be even earlier. But by that age I had a passion. I won poetry competitions and then tried to get a book series published but back then it was extremely hard to get published.
What's the story behind your latest book?
My personality can be very humorous and one day an idea came to me to write a story that showed this fact. In my head I could picture the main character and picture exactly what she wanted and what she was like, I just had to pour my sassy side into it and make a relatable, single, character that people would love. I want the reader to follow her on the crazy dating journey, whilst gasping and laughing at the crazy things she says or does.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
At first it was about getting my books out there, but over the years it has become so much more. I am in control of everything.
