Interview with Larry E McCray

how long have you been writing poetry?
I started in 1993.
How has Smashwords contributed to your success?
We just started today 2/28/2014, its too soon to know.
Why did you start writing in 1993, and not sooner, did something happen?
In order to answer that I have to give you some background. I was a Marine Jr. first and foremost, I was taught that a man always stands up straight with his head held high, and big boys never ever cry. Secondly I was in eight schools by the time I was in the 7th grade. That's the background. The event is as follows. In 1993 I had been married for 18 years, at that time I was working away from home. I sent most of my pay home, it was enough to pay all of the bills and buy groceries and have money left over. She started an affair with our Minister, didn't pay any one for 6 months, called my company and told them something that got me fired and 3 months later my mother died. So in the space of 3 months I lost my wife,my preacher and church, my good credit, my job and my mother. With no idea how to grieve for what I'd lost. Depression was coming fast. 1st poem "DOUBT" came into my mind.
What do you read for pleasure?
Every thing I can get my hands on,
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
Self marketing
Describe your desk
I have an old roll top desk that i love
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
to share with others
What is your writing process?
A poem comes into my mind fully written, when that happens it stays there until I write it down, usually in word. I am a bad speller, but the poetry is always perfectly spelled.
So how did you come up with the name
'EVEN A MAN CAN CRY' Is a little poke to everyone who believes the right brain left brain, women are from Venus and men are from Mars. I lived my life as close to logical for over 40 years( I was a Sr. Programmer/Analyst) However all of this emotional poetry came out of me starting in 1993.
