Interview with Leslie LeBlanc

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Being able to create something is an amazing feeling, whether you're a writer, painter, sculpter, etc. You create and bring to life something from your imagination. It can feel like a roller coaster ride while you're working on your project but in the end, you've created something unique, an expression of you, and you hope that people will like and appreciate it.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I find many traditional publishers require more conformity to a set formula or their preferences as opposed to finding out what readers are really interested in. Indie authorship allows me to fully express my creativity, without deadlines, and allows me free reign over my product. The draw back is that it's like running your own business, so you are responsible for all editing, marketing, and distribution. That being said, I believe that readers -while they may have their favorites- prefer to see the authors real voice, something unique, and not always the same set pattern and formula.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I work, and am very family oriented. So most of my free time is with them. I do play video games and listen to music. I'm a homebody more than anything.
How do you approach cover design?
I have recently started purchasing premade covers. I try to find one within my budget that best represents the story, or spirit of it. While my stories are romances, there's more going on and if I can find one that encapsulates the full range of the story, I want to try for that. Maybe if I become somewhat successful I might consider custom made covers. It's the first thing the reader sees so I want the best representation of the story possible.
What are you working on next?
Right now I'm working on a romantic suspense novel.
What inspires you to get out of bed each day?
My family. On my days off, if I'm not up by a certain time, my bed becomes the location for a family reunion, which includes our cat.
How do you discover the ebooks you read?
I like bookbub and other sites like that. If I like the author I'll seek out other books by them and buy. I sign up for these kinds of things and receive email notifications.
What do you read for pleasure?
I read romance mostly. I don't have a favorite romance genre per se. I'll read just about any kind.
What book marketing techniques have been most effective for you?
This is difficult. I haven't really found anything that has brought any real success.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I use a kindle app. It allows me to read on whatever device it's on, whether it's my laptop or my phone. I find this convenient because i can pick up where I left off on whatever I feel like using at the time.
