Interview with Linda Schuyler Horning

What does Buhari mean?
It means "daughter-in-law." I chose that for the name of my book because the story I wrote is largely about Amita joining our family. Nepalis have names for virtually every family relationship. I am Amita's Sasu Aama. Her mother is my Samdini.
What's Buhari about?
It's about a trip my husband and I took in 2014. We'd planned to trek in Nepal with our son who had lived there ten years. On the way we learned he'd married his girlfriend whom we had yet to meet -- not a good start. But, we had a wonderful visit in Kathmandu, then we traveled to Pokhara where we took part in a Hindu wedding ceremony. Our trek around the Annapurna Loop was very special for us.
What would you like readers to take away from reading your book?
I call my book an inspirational memoir, because it teaches life lessons.

First, you cannot know how your future will turn out. Live in the moment. Let go of what you can only imagine.
Second, be flexible, and grateful for what you have. We ask the Universe for certain outcomes, and then miss the answer, even when it's right in front of us.
Third. Love is always the answer.
